Consum and FoodRation4All have launched, in a pioneering way in Spain, the project „Nobody without their daily ration“, it is an innovative initiative of social conscience that digitalizes the Bitcoin Revolution process of food donations. To do this, they use advanced technologies, such as Blockchain technology, betting on the experience of donors, who will be able to make economic donations of the representative values of the products and food of the supermarket.
Without a doubt, it is an innovative pilot system to donate food in a virtual way and favor the integration of people at risk of social exclusion. This initiative has also had the collaboration of the Food Bank of Castellón, the University Jaume I of Castellón, the Diputación de Castellón and the City Council of the town. This information was made known through a press release.

The money collected from the donations will be treasured by the social entities that will convert it into purse cards to be distributed among their beneficiaries in a „strict and controlled“ way, so that they themselves will be the ones who „with full dignity“ will have access to the supermarket to acquire the products -perishable and non-perishable- that they need, according to the UJI in a statement.
A project that seeks to impact social awareness
This is a project of social awareness and impact, which seeks to digitally transform the current process of food donations using advanced technologies aimed at improving the experience of those who wish to collaborate. To this end, advanced technologies are used, oriented to improve the experience of donors.
Consum is the largest cooperative in the Spanish Mediterranean arc. It has 755 supermarkets, including its own and franchises, distributed throughout Catalonia, the Community of Valencia, Murcia, Castile-La Mancha, Andalusia and Aragon. In 2019 it had a turnover of 2,935 million euros, 7.4% more, and made a profit of 54.6 million euros. With more than 3.4 million partner-customers and 16,031 workers, Consum is the only distribution company with the Family-Responsible Company Certificate (Efr).
Blockchain technology could have a positive impact on public services
In the words of Carmen Picot, Executive of Institutional Relations of Consumers, „this is an initiative that allows us to show the social commitment of our Cooperative with the most vulnerable groups, improving the current system of food donation based on technology, which is increasingly present and necessary to facilitate day-to-day management. The idea is to simplify food donation procedures, putting technology at the service of the whole chain“.
Technology facilitates the process of donations
Financial donations can be made through the digital donation machine that is located in the Consum supermarket located at Calle Herrero No. 51 in Castellón de la Plana, or through the app ‚Nobody without their daily ration‘, available for Google Play and Apple Store and enabled to be used from any location, without having to be in a supermarket.
Barcelona Tech City will soon inaugurate a building where Blockchain will be present
Donors will be able to know at all times the state of their donation, and can check if it has already been consumed and even which supermarket the beneficiary has purchased from.
The money collected will be managed by the Banco de Alimentos de Castellón, which will transfer it to cash cards that can be exchanged in any Consum establishment. These will be strictly distributed among the beneficiaries. It will also be included products from the basic and children’s hygiene sections.
For its part, the traceability of donations is controlled through a blockchain platform designed exclusively for the project, which provides transparency to the entire system, from the time of donation to the use of the purse cards in the supermarkets themselves.
